About This Program
Hunting parties were the original men’s groups.
Rite of Passage is an opportunity to learn to hunt amidst a small group of committed and connected men. It brings together the power and benefit of a men’s group and men’s retreat along with a thorough and fundamental hunting education and mentorship process.
It begins with 4 monthly group calls, bringing you through the process of gearing up, feeling deeply into the ethics of taking life, learning about the role of hunting in conservation efforts, and getting a primer on fundamental hunting tactics. In this process, each participant is required to obtain his Hunter’s Safety card and do enough practice to become proficient with a weapon.
The course culminates with a fully supported hunting camp in the Texas hill country, hunting for white tailed deer and wild pigs. This is not a high fence hunt, we are hunting wild animals.
We are not outfitters, there is no guarantee of killing anything. What we can guarantee is that we will mentor you step by step through the process. We will hunt together until you are ready to hunt alone. By the end of the experience you will have the confidence and knowledge to plan and execute your own hunts. You will have experience gutting and butchering, you will know how to read a landscape, you will know basic animal behavior for the species we are targeting. We will also share the joy of learning to cook wild game and share it with our loved ones.
GETTING INTO HUNTING IS NOT EASY.
Learning to hunt is incredibly difficult. It is not a simple sport or hobby, the stakes are high when life and death is on the line. Unless you are born into a family that hunts, have a buddy that’s willing to mentor you, or are really dedicated on your own, you’re pretty much out of luck.
Some of the hurdles include:
-
How do I approach firearms if I’ve never shot or owned a gun before?
-
Where would I go to hunt?
-
How do I do this safely?
-
I found a place to hunt, where the heck are the animals?
-
What are the ethics of hunting for meat?
-
If I do harvest an animal, how do I gut it?
-
How do I butcher the meat into usable cuts?
-
Where the hell do I even start?
Our hunting mentors are lifelong hunters, conservationists, and trained men’s work facilitators. They are patient, honest, and know how to teach and mentor men.
Moreover, they love this shit and they love helping men transform through this process.
OUR ETHICS
We take the ethics of hunting as sacred. Out tenets are:
-
Safety is primary in all scenarios.
-
Hunting laws are to be followed at all times.
-
We are primarily meat hunters. We use the entirety of the animal.
-
We take great care to train with our weapons so we can make ethical shots.
-
We value grit and effort, and are learning to hunt with boots on the ground.
-
We understand the incredible impact hunting has on the conservation of animals and the land. We promote and actively work toward further conservation of our wild places and its inhabitants.
-
We take care of the meat so it does not go to waste.
-
We become healthy ambassadors for this primal art and lifestyle.
